Reacting to today’s Audit Scotland report on Social Security Scotland, Poverty Alliance director Peter Kelly said: “Our social security system should be there to address the injustice of poverty, but over the years the UK system has been systematically undermined. It no longer provides the support people need to live a dignified life.
“Devolved social security powers has meant Scotland has an opportunity to renew our approach to the system. It’s good that the Auditor General has found that people’s experience of dealing with Social Security Scotland has been largely positive, and that the roll-out of benefits is going well.
“We need to make sure that the good work continues. Commitments to compassion and dignity must be backed up with investment if we are to turn the tide on poverty in Scotland.”
