The Poverty Alliance is Scotland's national anti-poverty network. Together with our members, we influence policy and practice, support communities to challenge poverty, provide evidence through research, and build public support for the solutions to tackle poverty. Our members include grassroots community groups, large national charities, voluntary organisations, statutory organisations, trade unions, and faith groups.
What we need from journalists
We have over 400 members across Scotland, and we would like to highlight more of them on our website and social media channels. We would like to focus on some of our smaller, community-based members.
We would expect that the assignment would be completed in five days.
We are flexible around dates. This is an ongoing project with opportunities to work with us through the year.
What you will do
We will match either one journalist, or a team of two, with one of our members. You will speak to a key contact in the organisation, and carry out other research to get a good idea about what they do. You will arrange to go out to film and interview people from the organisation.
You will then deliver an edited film report of between 1.30 to 5 mins, suitable for hosting on YouTube. In addition you will provide shorter versions, or suitable clips that can be shared on Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook, and LinkedIn. You will provide text that will go alongside the social media posts, with appropriate tags.
What the final film could look like
It really is up to you. You could do a straight, factual report, showing the services that the member organisation delivers. You could interview people who have been directly helped by the organisation.

What you will get
You will be supported by our Communications Officer. He was a journalist in newspapers, radio and TV for more than 20 years, and is keen to support the next generation of reporters in Scotland.
We will pay lunch and travel expenses.
You will have real-life experience of what it is like to be assigned a story, to bring it to broadcast, and to get feedback and support from an editor. You will also have the finished video and social media to add to your showreel, and the chance of a reference from an experienced communications professional.
