| UK Coalition Against Poverty |
UKCAP exists to enable people who experience poverty in the UK to play an active part in the development of sustainable national policies for the eradication of poverty.
UKCAP was established in 1996 to act as an umbrella group bridging together people with direct experiences of poverty, community groups, voluntary organisations and agencies that want to make their voices heard in anti-poverty and social exclusion policy work.
UKCAP developed because it became increasingly obvious through the developing anti-poverty networks in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England that a UK wide organisation was needed to co-ordinate the work and experiences of people living in poverty.
UKCAP brings together anti-poverty networks thoughout Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and England. UKCAP now has a Board whose membership is made up from the four nations, and of individuals who are split 50/50 – people living and experiencing poverty and people who are working in the field of anti-poverty.
Our focus is at the UK wide level of decision making, and involves liaising with politicians and senior policy makers to ensure that the experiences and concerns of UKCAP’s membership are listened to, taken seriously and incorporated into all relevant policies.
