Transcending Poverties conference - 20/02/2007

In February 2007, the Royal Society of Edinburgh hosted a major conference in Glasgow on 'Transcending Poverties'. This conference was addressed by a range of senior academics, politicians and clergy and was attended by hundreds of organisations. The conference stimulated real debate about the causes and solutions to the problems of poverty in Glasgow. Alf Young, editor of the Herald, criticised the conference and its participants for failing to come up when new ideas to tackle poverty.
