Audit Scotland was set up on 1 April 2000
to provide services to the Accounts Commission and the Auditor
General for Scotland. Together they help to ensure that the Scottish
Executive and public sector bodies in Scotland are held to account
for the proper, efficient and effective use of around £16 billion
of public funds.

Support Agency
An executive agency of the Department of Social
Security, responsible for running the child support system which
was introduced in April 1993. Assess, collect and pay child support
maintenance, ensuring that parents who live apart meet their financial
responsibilities to their children.

The Department for Work and Pensions, which
was formed on 8th June 2001 from parts of the former Department
of Social Security, and parts of the former Department for Education
and Employment . The website provides up to date and accurate
information on the costs of raising children, support for people
who are looking for work or cannot work and promotes financial

The Government Gateway is the centralised
registration service for e-Government services in the UK. Registering
with the Government Gateway enables you to sign up for any of
the UK Governments services that are available over the
Internet. When you have completed the registration process, you
will be able to use a single User ID or digital certificate to
send and receive forms, such as Tax returns and VAT returns.

Review Service
The Independent Review Service (IRS) carry out
reviews of discretionary Social Fund decisions. You can apply
for a review once your case has been reviewed by the Department
for Work and Pensions (DWP). You can apply for an independent
review in writing to the DWP or complete the tear-off section
in leaflet IRS1.
POWER
- an independent inquiry into Britain's democracy
The POWER Inquiry has been set up by the Joseph
Rowntree Trusts to explore how political participation and involvement
might be increased and deepened in Britain. As part of its work
it seeks to suggest ways to enhance political engagement of the
least active groups, among them those on a low income, BME communities
and young people.
